Recommend a grinder for sharpening both kitchen knives and edge tools (planes, axes, etc.)

I only yesterday found out a bench grinder is not the right tool for this job. So what is? What should I be looking for?

Alternatively, if I should use some combination of wet sandpaper/whetstone/etc., then is there a single kit I can buy that has all these?
