Variant

The virus is real, and it's mean. Not really worse than the flu but far more relentless. I wasn't sick for a a day or two, I was at my worst for 10 days and didn't get out of bed for 16. I lost 27 pounds in two weeks. It took another week after that to feel well enough to return to work and I'm still dealing with shortness of breath two months later. As bad as that was, it's still not as frightening as how political it has been made. Dangerous precidents have been set. Emergency powers have been overstepped and overextended. Big corporate was granted the right to stay open while entrepreneurs were forced to scale back or close, and punished when they questioned the wisdom of those rules. Big pharma was allowed to sidestep public safety protocols in the name of public health, and paid handsomely to do it. It's the preamble to a post apocalyptic dystopian novel.
